From the President
Welcome To Our MBEI Website
Minnesota Business Educators, Inc.

Welcome from your MBEI President, Cindy Drahos. The Minnesota Business Educators, Incorporated (MBEI), an independent organization, is the state’s foremost organization that is dedicated to:
*Promoting, developing, and improving business education at all educational levels.
*Providing opportunities for professional growth by its members.
*Discovering and serving the needs of business educators toward equal access by all to fundamental business knowledge and skills.
“The more you lose yourself in something bigger than yourself, the more energy you will have.” The quote from Norman Vincent Peale has it right on. Feel the energy by renewing your membership with MBEI or becoming a member for the first time. We have a great opportunity to start our school year off by participating in the Fall MBEI Conference in Rochester, MN. This year’s theme is Med City Magic, Building Business Futures Today, October 13 and 14. I look forward to seeing you at the conference and building the energy. Our website is www.mbei-online.org.
Your executive board had the opportunity in August to gather at the Microsoft Technology Center for a day long leadership and technology training session. All attendees had a morning full of leadership tips, tours, and new technology demonstrations. In the afternoon we experienced technology that was beyond our comprehension but saw for our own eyes virtualization in the works, each participant had a chance to create a program in Visual Basic that ran a video when clicked. Everyone had a successful day and left energized. We are working with our contact at Microsoft to have our 2012 Fall Conference at the Microsoft Technology Center in Edina, MN.
As part of your membership through NBEA (National Business Educators Association) you have the opportunity to be a part of ISBE, International Society of Business Educators. At the end of July and beginning of August I had the opportunity to attend the 2011 International Conference in Basel, Switzerland. It was a great way to meet business teachers from 20 different countries, professors, industry leaders, and political representatives. I experienced five intense days of learning about the educational systems in Switzerland, France and Germany, along with many other countries, attend different educational sessions and visit businesses in the area. Next year the conference will be held in Denver, CO.
Also, this summer business teachers had the opportunity to attend the College Accounting workshop hosted by Wayzata High School with the coordination of Jean Rakun and Jean Kyle and team. It was the second year many of us attended the amazing workshop with the support of the MNCPA Society and the leadership of the experienced professor at Kansas State and his two trainers.
Jean Kyle and I were invited by the commissioner Cassellius to join in discussion of the “almost finished” revised K-12 state social studies standards. The meeting was well attended and MBEI again extended their resources to assist in teaming with the economic teachers to help in the transition to the new standards in the 2012 school year.
The MBEI executive team will work hard for you the member of this organization. Please feel free to let me or any one of the executive team members know your needs and wants. We will work hard to grow your energy. “Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success.”
