President, Jean Kyle’s Final Address

1966 – 2016, what has fifty years of business education in Minnesota been like and what will the next 50 years hold? Those are the thoughts that are on my mind as I reflect on the past two years that I have had the honor and privilege to serve as president of the business educators of Minnesota. Thank you to you, MBITE members, for your support for business education and for your trust in the MBITE board as we have embarked on some fundamental changes to the structure of our organization this past year.

It has been a truly wonderful experience and incredible chance for me to learn. I have had the opportunity to work closely with an officer team and board that have given generously of their time and talents. Thank you does not seem like enough to recognize how these members have gone the “extra mile” for the benefit of the organization. The work that we have accomplished together has advanced business education. The efforts by MBITE to recognize and address the many changes in technology and education that have an impact on our profession has set MBITE firmly on the path to embrace the future and change with the times.

A huge thank you to all who served on the board 2014 – 2016, and special thanks to our outgoing Treasurer, Troy Sagdalen and Secretary, Leah Lencowski. Your service to MBITE is recognized and all members benefitted from your dedication and service. To our next President, Callon Siebenahler, best wishes for a productive and engaging two years in your leadership role. You have the support and talents of a wonderful group of business educators who will be with you every step of the way.

The friendships made, the collegial professional support and the memories of so many shared events will always be dear to me. As I move into a different role in MBITE, I thank each of you for all that you have done to make my term successful. I know that MBITE will continue to strengthen and grow with the leadership of your elected officers, your board and through the commitment of such exceptional members.
Best regards,
Jean M. Kyle
MBITE President 2014 – 2016

“I thought I’d just let you know that I have decided to retire this year on May 13, 2016. I’ve been at Ridgewater since 1987 which means I’ve been teaching there for 29 years. I’ve enjoyed getting to know MBITE members from around the state and have always enjoyed attending the state conferences as well. The Boomers are retiring and making room for the Millennials to fill our spaces in the workforce. I plan to spend a couple months in the winter down in Florida (I’ve already decided that), and will create a website for my husband’s business. I’ve always wanted to take violin lessons and may do some writing, so there will be plenty to keep me busy and out of trouble. Feel free to pass this info on to others in the organization!”

MN Legislative Update

Republican state representative is holding state employee union contracts hostage to bring Wisconsin-style Right to Work policies to Minnesota.

Rep. Steve Drazkowski, R-Mazeppa, inserted policies that would weaken the voice of public workers into HF3585. The bill is supposed to be a vehicle for legislators to ratify collective bargaining agreements for four state-employee groups that represent about 30,000 workers.

The Republican-led House has proposed $50 million in new education spending; the DFL-led Senate, about $100 million. Both the House and Senate education finance bills include much-needed initiatives to help recruit teachers.
